Adult sailing classes will be held three times in 2015.  The classes start on June 23, July 7 and August 11, 2015.  The course has been developed in conjunction with the United States Sailing Association.  The course is designed for adults 18 years and older.  Youth sailing classes are detailed on the next page.

The classes are taught by U. S. Sailing Association certified sailing instructors.  They are experienced instructors who volunteer their time.

The prerequisities to enroll in the sailing class:  you must be able to swim 25 yards, you must be able to float or tread water for two minutes, and you must be able to put on a lifejacket in deep water. It is essential that you feel safe in the water!

The course content includes:

     water safety,

     small craft safety,

     basic boat handling skills,

     knot tying,

     sailing theory, and

daggerboard and keel boat sailing instruction.

Classes include 20 hours of instruction over three sessions.   The first session is classroom instruction that is conducted at the Double Tree Airport Hotel on Tuesday evening from 6 to 9 pm.   The second and third sessions are held on the following Saturday and Sunday at Sailboat Cove on the west shore of Cheney Lake.  The classes on Saturday and Sunday are from 8 am to 5 pm.

On Saturday, you will sail with instructors and fellow students on two-person Sunfish sailboats and have the opportunity to sail solo by the end of the day.

On Sunday, all sailing lessons moves to larger sailboats.  You and your fellow students will sail with an experienced captain and crew.  Throughout the day you will be taught how to take control of the helm, use the winches to change position of the sails, and will learn many other facets of sailing and docking a larger boat.

Not only do we want you to learn how to sail, we also want you to experience the characteristics of various types and sizes of sailboats.
